Arriviamo all'oasi è finita la mattina acqua fresca e cibo e noi riprendiamo come a vivere. |
TRADER ACROSS THE DESERT On a new journey I must set off round me pressing the stifling sun only such labour gives me bread to eat relentless courage clothes me in blue. All around, a world of waves the winding caravan creeps along the dune-edge, wind burning on my face no rocks here but in the heart appears a stony will to live burnished by the sand. The scent of evening dispels base thoughts we set up camp around a gentle fire to the desert stars the sparks ascend the moon lulls us with a bedtime ballad. The sun rises already over the tents the frost melts away noise wakes me “Up! Let’s go, lads!” a voice hails us "Let's get sorted; no hanging about!". We come to an oasis after the hours of morning a cool cup of water and a bite to eat revive us. Under a shady palm I'm lost in dreams through my fingers trickles sand time slips from my hand. All around, a world of waves the winding caravan creeps along the dune-edge, wind burning on my face no rocks here but in the heart appears a stony will to live burnished by the sand. Now the fair appears full of joy and light we have brought spices rich with perfume. So often in our lives we make this journey it finishes only at the distant road's end. |
